A perfect spring night set the scene beautifully as the American Cancer Society held in Coral Springs/Parkland it’s one of many Relay for Life events! Van Kirk & Sons Pools & Spas happily donated as survivors and caregivers were in the spotlight of the incredible and emotional ceremony of receiving both gratitude and honor for their experiences battling cancer. Jonathan Schulter, Van Kirk & Sons Pools & Spas Marketing Director was on hand during the event and was moved by the night’s memoranda. “It was incredibly touching to see all of the survivor’s and caregivers being honored and I was really amazed seeing their emotions. They all had so much gratitude and fight in them and they really displayed it here tonight!” Van Kirk & Sons Pools & Spas was happy to donate and are pool builders in Coral Springs and Parkland among so many other cities in Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach Counties!

Hundreds of Relay For Life events are formed nationwide that consists of many different elements that come together. There is pre-event fundraising to create awareness and buzz before the event. Then there is team formation that consists of either setting up or joining a team that friendly competes for fundraising efforts and walks together during the event. Then the event starts with an opening ceremony to get participants and spectators pumped up! The evening continues with survivors and caregiver celebratory laps, team laps and activities, lighting the luminara that consists of remembering those we have lost, and celebrating cancer survivors and their caregivers. This takes place in the darkness of nighttime to show everyone affected by cancer that they are the light of darkness. Last but not least is closing ceremonies.

According to their website, at the American Cancer Society, there on a mission to free the world from cancer. Until they do that, they will be funding and conducting research, sharing expert information, supporting patients, and spreading the word about prevention. All so they can live longer-and better. “Our mindset moves us to seek out what’s new and what’s next” says Otis Brawley, MD who is the Chief Medical Officer of the American Cancer Society. He goes on to say: “The creative ideas and innovative approaches that will push cancer research forward.”
