What was supposed to be an ordinary Sunday morning turned into an incredibly fulfilling occasion as the Marketing Director for Van Kirk and Son's Pools & Spas in Deerfield Beach, Florida Jonathan Schulter participated and donated to the 10th annual Mother's Against Drunk Driving (MADD) 5K Dash in Fort Lauderdale. He was accompanied by his family including his half-brother Michael Schaefer, who works for Art's Plumbing AC Electric. One of their employee's daughter tragically lost her life at the hands of a drunk driver who was on the wrong side of the Sawgrass Expressway.
"When I heard that story at work, I knew I wanted to do everything I could to help out" said Michael. "From what I've heard, it's a very common occurrence that needs to stop." He told his family members at home about this, including Jonathan, who was just as sympathetic and felt urged to participate. "When you hear a story like that, it really catapults you to support this, and the Van Kirk Pools & Spas family were in full support of this and donated with me as well." Jonathan and his family weren't the only one as thousands gathered at Huizenga Plaza for the 5K MADD Dash.
